Park Maintenance and Irrigation

Fertilizer

Fall application of fertilizer on the turf at Wellington's parks is slated for the week of Oct. 13. Access will not be restricted during the application but areas of treated turf will be marked with yellow flags, which will remain in place for at least 48 hours after the application.

Irrigation

Throughout October, irrigation blowouts will be happening at all Wellington Parks in preparation for winter. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this routine work.

During spring and summer months, irrigation at the parks typically runs from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. on scheduled basis. If you perceive an issue, please call our office — 7:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday — at (970) 568-7410. If you encounter an issue after hours, please call the Parks and Recreation Emergency On-Call number at (970) 473-0202.

Park Maintenance and Information

The Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 80 acres of parks and open spaces throughout the Town of Wellington. Green spaces in the Town of Wellington are predominately watered with non-potable water - water that is not treated for consumption. While non-potable systems are not included in the mandatory outdoor watering restrictions, we are committed to valuing our water – the Wellington way. Regular irrigation of parks will take place in compliance with watering restrictions after 7 p.m. and before 8 a.m. up to twice a week.

But what is happening if I see water running outside of the permitted hours? Great Question! Maintaining a system with miles of irrigation piping and hundreds of valves and sprinkler heads requires upkeep and repairs. This could include repairing broken sprinklers, valves, and piping, new plant and tree establishment and growth, turf seeding through the germination stage, post aeration to improve turf quality, and park renovation projects. We also optimize system performance by making intentional adjustments to sprinklers and controllers.

When maintenance is occurring, look for signage posted around the area. Check this page fro weekly recaps on irrigation maintenance that has occurred. Finally, if you have a concern we want to hear from you– tell the Town by reporting online. Thank you for your continued support of Wellington Parks and Recreation!
